What to Expect Week by Week
Here’s a general idea of what your first month might look like at Herts Guitar Lessons:
Week 1: Meet Your Guitar
In your first week, we’ll show you how to hold your guitar the right way, how to sit comfortably, and what each part of the guitar is called. You’ll also learn how to tune it so it sounds nice. Don’t worry if this feels new; everyone starts here!
By the end of the week, you’ll be able to strum your first string and play your first sound. It’s all about getting comfortable and having fun.
Week 2: Easy Chords & Simple Strumming
Now that you know your way around the guitar, it’s time to start learning easy chords like E minor and A major. You’ll use just a few fingers to make your first real music.
We’ll also teach you a simple way to strum, just down and up with your hand. This is the week most students get excited because it finally sounds like a song!
Week 3: Play Your First Song
This week, we help you put your chords and strumming together to play a real song! It might be something like “Three Little Birds” or “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”, whatever suits your age and taste. We’ll go slowly and help you build confidence.
You’ll also get better at switching between chords without looking at your fingers. Many kids and beginners in Cheshunt and Harpenden tell us this is their favourite week!
Week 4: Add a New Skill & Have Fun
In the final week, you’ll keep getting better at what you’ve learned so far. We’ll also show you something new, maybe a fun new chord, a simple melody, or how to play with a beat. You’ll be surprised at how much you’ve learned in just one month!
We’ll help you record a short video if you want to show off your new talent. Most students finish this week feeling proud and ready to keep going.
How to Maximise Your 30-Day Guitar Journey
To make the most of your first month learning guitar, consistency is key. Aim to practice for at least 15 to 30 minutes each day. Short, focused sessions are far more effective than long, inconsistent ones.
Try to set specific goals each week, whether it’s learning a new chord, improving your strumming pattern, or playing along with a backing track. Speaking of backing tracks, they’re a fantastic way to make practice more fun and musical.
At Herts Guitar Lessons, we provide students with custom tracks to jam along with, which boosts confidence and keeps things exciting. Don’t hesitate to ask questions during or between lessons, Shane is always happy to provide support. Lastly, set a fun, achievable target for yourself.
Whether it’s playing the intro to your favourite song or strumming a simple tune for a friend, having a goal makes your progress feel real and rewarding. With the right mindset and guidance, your 30-day guitar journey can be both productive and enjoyable.
